NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting Class

This is an introduction to the selection, storage, maintenance, and use of a handgun. We will cover safety, handgun types, safety, ammunition, safety, shooting fundamentals (ie, grip, sight alignment, etc), safety, recreational and competitive shooting activities, safety, firearm cleaning, and… safety. You may have picked up on something: We put safety in and around everything we do. We take safety very seriously. Period. And let’s face it, unsafe customers are not repeat customers…

Who can take this class?
This class is for anyone, from those “just curious” about firearms to those that are interested in instructing others. No previous firearm experience is required. Any student under the age of 18-years-old must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Also, as per Federal law, all participants must be U.S. Persons as defined by 15 CFR § 772.1 and 22 CFR § 120.15.

What do I need to bring?

• Pen/pencil and notepad
• Comfortable clothes appropriate for the weather.
• Comfortable close-toed shoes
• Baseball cap or brimmed hat
• Hearing and eye protection. If you don’t have any, we have some available to borrow.
• Handgun in a soft or hard case.
• 100 rounds of ammunition (see note 1 below)
• Lunch/snacks and drinks
• Bug spray and sunscreen
• A learning mindset
• A smile

Note: This course does NOT meet the requirements for a Tennessee Handgun Carry Permit. This is a hands-on learning class with learning and skills evaluations as part of the course.

Safety Note: We operate a Cold Range, which means firearms are always unloaded except when at the firing line. Keep your unloaded firearm inside the carrying case and unloaded except when on the firing line.

Seats are limited and are first-come-first-served basis.

If you don’t have a handgun already, you can rent one of ours. A rental fee of $20 includes the use of a .22 caliber pistol and ammunition for the class.
